Meet The Team - Jonathan Dobson
Our newest team member, Jonathan Dobson joined the IT Hotdesk team in April as our Business Development Executive. With just two months under his belt, let’s hear what Jonathan is getting up to at work and home!
What’s your career background?
When I left school, I completed a degree in Building Surveying at Glasgow Calendonian University. Following graduation, I stayed in the Central Belt region working for various companies as a surveyor but then decided to change direction and moved into Mobile Telecoms.
I relocated to Aberdeen to work for another Mobile Telecoms company in 2011 where I stayed until 2018 and then did a short stint in advertising before joining IT Hotdesk and here I am!
Tell me about your current role?
My role as Business development executive involves identifying new growth opportunities through developing new and existing client relationships. As part of the management team, I am responsible for meeting sales revenues as well as improving the business and supporting our growth strategy through business development activities including managing our sales pipeline, tacking new opportunities, liaising with our technical teams on tenders, gathering intelligence, networking and developing sales and tools.
What is the most inspiring part of your job?
I get a lot of satisfaction from working with people and developing that relationship. Getting the chance to work with a business from the initial call or meeting through to seeing the service, products or solutions being implemented and finally seeing the benefits as we improve their IT infrastructure which in turn helps their business grow. Technology is extremely powerful when used in the right situation at the right time. I enjoy customising our service because it is about getting the right solution to meet specific client needs.
What advice would you give a candidate who wanted to join the dream team?
Be honest, have a good personality and a desire to not only see yourself grow but also the business.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I have a young family so when not spending time with them, you will find me on the golf course or driving range at any given opportunity. I am an avid golfer with a membership at Newburgh Golf Club in Aberdeenshire. Golf isn’t the easiest of sports but I do try to improve my handicap which in recent months has come down to 3.
If you could have a super-power, what would it be?
I think it would be to control the weather. It seems to cause a lot of issues across the world from drought to rain and snow. It would be amazing to ensure it was sunny at the weekend and summer holidays as everyone is far happier when the sun is out!
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Nothing currently as I haven’t renewed my subscription. But I tend to watch a lot of box sets on Sky and binge them over short periods before moving onto something new. My last series was Fortitude which I watched within 5 nights as I couldn’t wait to get to the end!
